Factors to Consider When Switching Materials in Dispensing Equipment

Before changing materials, which are to run in a meter, mix and dispense system the following criteria must be taken into account to ensure a smooth transition. Always consult the factory before switching materials.

Please consider the following:

  • Does the new product differ in viscosities and if so will the equipment be suited for the difference?
  • Differences in compressibility of materials. The system will need for the pumps to be correctly phased if there is a difference in the compression of the materials.
  • Are the ratios the same, if not what changes are going to be required? Are changes to hoses and outlets going to be required as well as the pump configuration?
  • Will the residue of the old materials react with the new product?
  • Will the product be compatible with the seals and O-ring material in the equipment?
  • Is there a difference in reaction time?
  • Differences in how materials react to a change in temperature.
  • Comparison in what type of static mixer is required.
  • Will the solvents that are required to clean the new product be compatible with the equipment?
  • Is the new product more or less hazardous?
  • Is there a difference in moisture sensitivity? If so, does a desiccant dryer need to be added for the new product?
